Monroe Boat Club
presents the
2012 Commodore Rodger Dutton
|
|
 |
Rodger was born December 1, 1961 in
Andover, Ohio on Pymatuning Lake. His interest in
boating started at a young age, and sailing with his
father out of the Pymatuning Sailing Club. Rodger
moved to Milan Michigan where he graduated from High
School in 1980. After high school, he spent one year
at Lake Superior State College, then transferred to
the University of Toledo and graduated with an
electronic engineering degree in 1984.
After
graduating from UT, Rodger moved to Ottawa, Illinois
to work for Libby Owens Ford Company at their glass
manufacturing plants. In 1990 he transferred to the
LOF Technical Center, located in Toledo. At this
time Rodger moved to Monroe where he still resides.
After two more years with LOF, he moved on to Ford
Motor Company where he is currently employed.
Rodger hadn't sailed much since his younger
years, but he was asked to crew on the Tuesday night
races at Monroe Boat Club. After crewing for 6 years
and enjoying MBC as a guest, he decided to join the
Club in 1996. This is also when he bought his own
sailboat. During this same time, he met his
wonderful wife Carolyn. Carolyn had never sailed
before but learned quickly and grew to love the
sport. She is a registered nurse, and graduated from
the University of Detroit. In 2002 their son Brandon
was born. He is also active in boating. Together
they race and cruise on their current sailboat White
Star.
Rodger has served as the MBC Sail Fleet
Captain in 1999 and 2000. He also served as
Dockmaster in 2009. He has been very involved with
MBC through the years. Rodger earned his Master's
Captains license in 2007.
He looks forward to
representing and leading this great club through the
next year as your Commodore. |
