Spring Series Regatta Sailing Instructions

May 17 - 18, 2008

GENERAL: This race is open to all single-hulled, auxiliary sailboats whose skipper is a member in good standing of an affiliated yacht club. Each entry must be accompanied by a current PHRF rating certificate and $100,000 liability insurance policy. The Spring Series will consist of three races, 2 races Saturday May 17 (weather permitting) and one race Sunday May 18. If needed a makeup race may be sailed Sunday afternoon.

REGISTRATION: Skippers may register in advance by mail or online at www.monroeboatclub.org. Open registration at MBC will take place Friday, May 16, 2008, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Entry fee is $35.00 and a $5.00 discount is offered with proof of USSA membership.

 

STARTING LINE: The starting line will be between the MBC/NCYC “North” racing mark and an Orange Flag on the race committee boat.  The North mark is located approximately 1 mile southeast of LaPlaisance Channel R2 buoy. 

COURSES: Race Committee will display course cards indicating course number. 

FINISH: The finish will be the MBC/NCYC “North” mark and the RC boat (same location as starting line) unless shortened. 

POSTPONEMENTS: Code flag “AP” and two guns will signal postponement.  If done on shore, the first Warning Signal will be 55 minutes after the lowering of “AP”. 

INDIVIDUAL RECALLS: The RC boat will attempt to notify individual yachts of recall by hailing and VHF Channel 71.  However, in accordance with USSA racing rules (29.2), the failure of a yacht to hear her recall shall not relieve her of the obligation to start correctly and is not grounds for redress.

PROTESTS: Protest flags must be flown.  The protesting yacht shall notify the RC Finishing boat immediately after finishing. The Protest Time Limit is 2 hours of the last finishing boat. (Protest forms are located inside MBC near the Sail Fleet Bulletin Board & Are To Be Given To The Principal Race Officer or A Member of The MBC Race Committee). Hearing(s), if applicable will be held ASAP after the filing deadlines daily.  All interested parties must be present.

COMMUNICATIONS: The race committee will monitor VHF Channel 71.  An unofficial observer may report all visual signals displayed by the RC over Channel 71.  This information is provided as a courtesy to competitors.  Errors or omissions on the part of the observer will not be grounds for granting redress.   

RULES: Unless otherwise prescribed by these racing instructions, the race will be held in accordance with US Sailing Yacht Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008, and the MBC Race Committee. The series will be sailed using current racing rules. We will follow USSA Rule 26 for starting and scoring will be the Low Point System per Appendix A4.1. 

AWARDS: Awards will be presented 2.5 hours following the last finish of the last race on Sunday, consisting of flags 1st , 2nd , and 3rd place for each class of five entries, PHRF and JAM overall, plus an overall perpetual trophy. 

DOCKAGE: The Dock master asks that all visiting yachts call the club in advance if arriving before 6:00 p.m. on Friday by calling the club at 734-243-8935.

The Starts: Races will be started in accordance with RRS 2005-2008, Rule 26. The starting order and class flags for starting will be as follows:
