A.Y.C. Pool League Report

2008 Season

Once again this year, Monroe  Boat Club entered a team in the AYC pool League. The league consisted of 13 teams, representing 9 clubs. The clubs that are represented are as follows: MBC, PPBC, HVYC, DBBC, MRYC, TSC (2), CCYC (2), SBC (2), and RVYC (2). The league is set up to be played in 2 halves with a position playoff at the end.

On April 2, 2008, Monroe Boat Club had a playoff with Toledo Sailing Club to determine 2nd place overall in the league. Monroe won that playoff finishing the highest we have since rejoining the league. The league is very competitive with an emphasis upon good fellowship and friendly interaction among the different clubs.

The members playing on the MBC team this year are: Capt. Kevin Angove, Co-capt Fritz Peterson, Dave Amer, Ed Frantzen, Russ Kenyon, Gary Kranz, Clyde Morgan, and John Peterson.

The members of the pool team want to thank Monroe Boat Club for the use of the facilities and especially R/C Wendy Campbell for opening the table for us to use on our scheduled home games.

We look forward to participating again next season and we hope to finish even higher in the standings.

Did you know that Michael Makela is now a member of MBC?

Michael Makeal, the son of Keith Makela, was inducted as a member at the November 14 Board meeting. He was home on leave and has now returned to active duty in Iraq. We welcome him as a new member of MBC and pray for his safe return.

Thank You MBC!

Dear Monroe Boat Club, my name is PFC Michael Makela and my dad Keith Makela is a member there. I'm writing because I recently returned from Iraq for R&R and you did a lot of good things for me. The few times I came to the club while home, everyone was very friendly and supportive. I enjoyed my time very much there and I hope to become a member when I get back. With the money donated during the Fish Fry, I was able to buy food and hygiene products for my squad. My squad and I appreciate everything you have done for us.

My company, Alpha Company 1-14 IN, 25th ID is stationed in northern Iraq. The city is relatively quiet for now but you never know when things might heat up. My unit expects to be stationed there 8-14 more months, but once we return, I'll come to visit.

I thank you once again for your kindness and all your support and hope to hear from you again.

Sincerely, Mike Makela, Michael J. A CO 1-14 IN 2nd BCT 25th ID (L) APO AE 09347-9998”

Remember our Soldiers by wearing RED on FRIDAY's until they ALL come home. We received this letter in June. Anyone can send packages; the best items are: small items, AA & AAA batteries, snacks in hard containers, vacuum-packaged snacks  & drinks, such as Kool-Aid, raisins, Life Savers or other hard candy, baby wipes, foot powder, disposable razors, CDs  music, Most importantly, remember the post office may want to inspect the box before shipping so make sure to list all the items inside, and possibly estimate their value.
